On Sunday both the Jazz Band and Big Band participated in the regional round of the National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) at Warwick Hall.

Both bands rose to the occasion playing with style and panache and all performers should be incredibly proud of their achievements. The Jazz Band directed by Katy Landon were awarded a Gold Award which means they may be selected to perform in the national festival in March and the Big Band directed by myself, were awarded a Platinum Award which means they are through to the nationals. Well done all!

The feedback for both bands noted some areas to develop as we move forwards but overall was all very positive.

‘There has been much to appreciate in this performance. Soloists were effective, the whole band sound had a fantastic number of players. Well done and thank you.’ Jazz Band

‘This is a very competent band with excellent players in all sections. Balance is pretty good with most detail present. Overall, this is a band with real skill who gave a great performance.’ Big Band

Maria McKenzie

Director of Music
