Shrewsbury School is delighted that ten Salopians have received Oxbridge offers, following on from a flurry of offers from prestigious universities both in the UK and overseas.

Offers for university places have been rolling in this term, and we were pleased to celebrate the ten Salopians that have received offers from Cambridge and Oxford to read a broad range of subjects.

With competition for some courses and universities being incredibly strong, it has been gratifying to see our Upper Sixth’s hard work pay off, with a good number of Salopians also receiving offers from institutions like Imperial College London, Durham, Edinburgh and St Andrews.

This year’s Oxbridge offer recipients are:

  • Aidan K (S) Mathematics: Robinson College, Cambridge
  • Arthur B (I, OS) Music: Queen's College, Oxford
  • Cherry L (G) Natural Sciences (Biological): Newnham College, Cambridge
  • Chloe T (MSH, OS) Philosophy & Theology: Pembroke College, Oxford
  • Giles H (I) Linguistics: Robinson College, Cambridge
  • Jeremy G (O) Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology: Trinity College, Cambridge
  • Joe C (Case) Engineering: Peterhouse, Cambridge
  • Kate W (M, OS) Education: Christ's College, Cambridge
  • Mari T (G) French: Pembroke College, Oxford
  • Mico X (EDH) Natural Sciences (Physical): St John's College, Cambridge

Headmaster Leo Winkley said: “This year's Oxbridge season has seen 10 offers for Salopians.  Seven light blue and three dark blue.  Alongside those securing early offers from Harvard, UPenn, the University of Chicago and other leading universities around the globe, these pupils have successfully conveyed their intellective passion across a broad range of disciplines, with offers in Engineering, Linguistics, Natural Sciences, French, Mathematics, Philosophy and Theology, and Music.

“There are many futures that open up from Shrewsbury: these are just some of them.”

Old Salopian and future Oxford Scholar, Chloe T (MSH, 2021-23), said in an interview in 2023: “Shrewsbury has entirely changed what I want to do at university and what I want to pursue academically... The teachers are inspiring, and it has really opened up a different world for me and has completely changed the trajectory of what I want to do after school.”

Deputy Head (Academic) Richard Kowenicki said “Congratulations to all pupils who have secured Oxbridge offers this year. It is wonderful to see the impact that our enriching classroom environments have for all of our pupils, as offers from world class universities continue to come in.”

The news of Oxbridge offers follows the equally excellent news that seven Salopians were named as early applicants to US colleges at the beginning of term. From August, pupils will be heading to Harvard, the University of Chicago and Temple University, as well as other prestigious institutions across the states. Read more about it here.

With the national UCAS deadline passing this week, we wish all of our Upper Sixth and recent leavers applying to university the very best as they wait to hear, and look forward to celebrating their offers as they come in over the next few months. In a cycle that never ends, the process has already begun with the Lower Sixth, who are beginning to take those tentative footsteps in considering life beyond Shrewsbury across the globe.
