Busy weekend of racing sees Boat Club success at home and abroad

The coach weekend provided a busy weekend of racing for the Boat Club.
Richard W (I,LVI) was selected to represent Great Britain at the Munich International Junior Regatta on Saturday and Sunday of the bank holiday weekend. Richard raced in a coxless four on Saturday and in an eight on both days of the regatta. In the coxless four his crew placed second in the C Final. In the eight the crew had a terrific race with the Czechia that went all the way to the line with GB taking the honors by less than a second. On the Sunday the eight took to the water again with Richard and a mix of GB athletes and managed to produce the same winning result.
On Sunday the Senior Boys and Girls competed at the Wallingford Regatta at Dorney Lake. The Senior boys raced in two coxed fours in the School Junior event. Both crews progressed through their respective heats for a face off in the final. There was some very close racing in the field and the crews placed second and fourth in the final with two seconds separating them.
The Senior Girls entered a crew into the School Junior Coxless Quad and Coxed Fours events. The quad raced first in the morning and produced a stunning and controlled row to win their heat and book a place in the final. In the final they struggled to reproduce the same speed they showed in the heat and placed a creditable fourth. The coxed four raced in the afternoon and did well to place in the top ten out of twenty-four crews in the heat and earn themselves a place in the repechage. The girls went off fast in the rep to compete for a top two finish and a spot in the A final but couldn’t sustain the pace in the second half of the race. Both crews gained valuable experience and will be looking to build on their performances next weekend at the Nottingham City Regatta.
On Monday Jake D (SH, IV) and Katie W (QEH, V) raced in singles at the Junior Sculling Regatta. The event is selective with only a limited number of rowers making it through to the final draw. Jake and Katie both produced competitive times placing 7th/10 and 6th/15 in their respective categories.
