Politics in Action: Lower Sixth students explore Westminster firsthand

Our Lower Sixth Politics students travelled to the capital for an insight into the workings of Westminster.
Last Thursday, our Politics sets had the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience to bring the knowledge that we have gained from this A Level to life. Visits to the Houses of Commons and Lords, Westminster Hall and even the Supreme Court greatly reinforced the theory of their purpose.
We witnessed discourse including Baroness Mobarik’s ‘Question for Short Debate’ regarding the safety and security of journalists worldwide. It was also fascinating to be in the exact rooms in which history-altering decisions have been taken over the centuries.
The highlight for many was our meeting and question time with Shrewsbury MP Julia Buckley; while she may not have got quite the grilling that our teachers had hoped, to hear and be given the opportunity to converse with a current member of parliament is certainly memorable. Credit to our teachers for taking us and putting it all together!
