Simon Langdale - Headmaster, Shrewsbury School 1981-88

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Simon Langdale, former Headmaster of Shrewsbury School, has died at the age of 88. 

Paying tribute to his predecessor, current Headmaster Mr Leo Winkley said:

“The Salopian community was deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of our former Headmaster, Simon Langdale, who led the school with distinction from 1981-1988. His leadership combined academic rigour with powerful support for the co-curriculum, particularly sport, not least his beloved cricket. Before coming to Shrewsbury, Simon was Headmaster of Eastbourne College (1973-1980). He was widely described as an outstanding Headmaster of his generation. 

 “We join our thoughts and prayers for his family and friends and all those many Salopians who remember his leadership with fondness and admiration.” 

A thanksgiving service for the life of Mr Langdale will be held in the New Year.
