We are delighted to congratulate Isabel T (MSH, UVI) on being shortlisted in the Durham University French Writing Competition earlier this year for her piece 'Plus forte que la peur' (Stronger than Fear).
The judges praised Isabel’s work as 'poignant, emotionally rich, and beautifully written.' They noted how her piece 'stirred deep feelings among the jury, capturing the trauma and transformation of a child in the face of terror with incredible sensitivity and maturity.' With the quality of entries exceptionally high this year, the jury described the shortlisting as a significant achievement and a reflection of the strength of Isabel’s writing.
Speaking about her recognition, Isabel commented:
“I was honoured that my piece was shortlisted. Writing in French pushed me to think carefully about how to capture complex emotions in another language, and I am really pleased that the judges felt it conveyed the sensitivity and depth I was aiming for.”
We warmly congratulate Isabel on this impressive accomplishment and look forward to seeing her continue to thrive as both a linguist and a writer.
