Shrewsbury School is delighted to be announced as a Finalist in this year’s Independent School of the Year Awards for the Student Careers Programme category.

These awards highlight the excellence of the student experience offered by the UK's independent schools and Shrewsbury has been recognised for its dedicated careers programme that is delivered by our unique Futures Department.

The Department is focussed on providing an outstanding service to pupils of all ages with careers-related planning. They offer a range of activities and events, such as enterprise conferences, assessment centre simulations, university fairs, alongside workshops and individual meetings with industry professionals, connecting with a global network of Salopians to ensure our pupils receive the best careers advice possible.

The quality of care from our Futures Department is evidenced by the standout figures that in 2022 89% of Salopians secured their first choice university destination across five different countries, extending the opportunity for the Futures team to connect with Salopians further afield.

Headmaster Leo Winkley said: “I am thrilled that Shrewsbury School has been listed as a Finalist in this year’s Independent School of the Year Awards for the Student Careers Programme.

“It is great news for the Futures Department to be recognised in this way and it is testament to their hard work and dedication to the futures of Salopians, as well as the significant partnership work with colleagues and pupils in State Schools in the region to extend opportunity.”

Head of Futures, Chris Wain, added: “I was absolutely delighted to hear the news that Shrewsbury School has reached the final for the student careers programme category.

“It has been an incredibly satisfying few months in the Futures Department, following confirmation that the School had successfully achieving the national Quality in Careers Standard accreditation (using the Career Mark approach) in June 2022. This recognition presents another opportunity to formally thank the many former pupils, parents (both past and present) and friends of the school who continue to contribute to the expanding provision we are able to offer our pupils.

“We will continue to be relentlessly ambitious with our ‘Futures Work’ to ensure that our pupils can access top quality advice and guidance.”

Independent Schools of the Year 2022 is an awards programme by Independent School Parent magazine. The awards are designed to showcase schools’ success stories and celebrate the extraordinary and compelling student experience they provide.

In 2020 Shrewsbury School was named Independent School of the Year, as well as receiving the award for Community Outreach in the same year.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on October 11th.
