A group of Lower Sixth students visited the Materials Science Department at the University of Oxford on Friday 16th May.

During the visit, they took part in a tensile testing workshop, getting hands-on with university equipment for testing the properties of different metals and plastics. As well as this, they used Excel to efficiently produce graphs of their results.

As part of the day, they heard about life at the university and more about the Materials Science course which combines the sciences, mathematics and engineering together to explore and explain the properties of materials.

After a picnic lunch in University Park, they visited the Museum of Natural History which has an impressive display of specimens from the natural world.
