Pupils from Shrewsbury were recognised for their exceptional contributions to society at this week’s High Sheriff of Shropshire's Outstanding Young Citizens Awards, held at Shrewsbury Colleges Group on London Road.

Led by the High Sheriff of Shropshire Jane Trowbridge, the ceremony celebrates young people across the county who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to community, service and charitable endeavour. It was a proud moment to see a number of Shrewsbury pupils honoured alongside other inspiring young people from the local community.

In addition to their ongoing involvement in volunteering and community partnership work, five pupils were recognised for their remarkable individual initiatives.

  • Walter S-E was recognised for completing the Three Peaks Challenge, raising £1,175, alongside his wider commitment to charitable work. Walter has supported organisations including SSAFA and Teenage Cancer Trust, contributed to local schools and charities, and is both a BYCA 2025 medallist and the first Youth Ambassador for IAPWA.
  • Faye P was celebrated for choreographing, planning and leading dance sessions for pupils at Grange Primary School and Severndale Specialist Academy, creating opportunities for young people to engage with musical theatre who might not otherwise have access.
  • Jamie B was commended for dedicating his holiday time to coaching and supporting young athletes, helping to ensure access to sport and promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
  • Cordelia H was recognised for organising and leading a pre-loved clothing sale, raising over £1,000 in support of Restart Africa.
  • Clara McA received recognition for her extraordinary fundraising efforts, having completed several marathons last summer to raise more than £5,000 for CoppaFeel. She also delivered talks to girls’ houses across the School, raising awareness of the importance of early breast cancer checks.

It was an honour to witness these pupils receive their awards. Their kindness, compassion and initiative embody the very best of Shrewsbury, and they serve as outstanding role models for younger pupils and the wider community.
