Shrewsbury’s CCF Royal Marine Section attended the Sir Steuart Pringle Trophy Competition last weekend and achieved a podium position at this prestigious cadet skills event.

The keenly awaited competition takes place at CTCRM (the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines). The event allows teams of eight cadets to compete against other schools at this famous training establishment which has significant training estate on the River Exe estuary and inland at Woodbury Common training area. The famed high rope confidence course, obstacle course and endurance course route (featuring the infamous ‘sheep dip’ obstacle) are well known among military circles and our Salopian cadets had worked very hard to train for this event.

Coming third out of sixteen schools our Team Captain Sgt Ben P (O, UVI) comments: “I couldn’t have asked for more from the Lads, they all worked extremely hard to prepare and train for the competition and because of this they performed more than admirably over the two days. Everyone should be extremely impressed with what they have accomplished and are now in a fantastic position looking forward to next year’s Pringle competition. Massive thanks to everyone that has helped me and the team over the 5 weeks of training, especially Capt. T and Col. D with invaluable support.”

Comments from some of team included the following quotes:

“When at pringle, I most enjoyed the inclusive atmosphere, as most of my teammates were by my side cheering me on and pushing me to be my best self.

“It was a very rewarding experience and influential weekend.”

Ethan P (R, V)

“The training was challenging however well worth it for the end result.”

Will R (O, V)

Head of CCF Lt Col Nick David added: “The Pringle Competition gives cadets in our RM section a clear focus. I have huge admiration for the self-starting nature of the individuals as nearly all the training for the event is organised by the pupils themselves. The team can be spotted practising early mornings and late evenings – this surely is self-leadership at its very best.”

For his exceptional leadership of the Shrewsbury CCF Royal Marine Sir Steuart Pringle Trophy Team Sgt Ben P has been awarded a Floreat.
