It was a truly memorable afternoon at Shrewsbury as Old Salopian Lieutenant Emma Graham made a spectacular return to school this week.

Arriving by helicopter on Lower Common alongside her instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Leigh Woodhouse. Recently qualified as an Army helicopter pilot, Emma spoke to our CCF pupils about her remarkable journey since leaving Shrewsbury, sharing insights into her training, experiences, and life in the Armed Forces. Her talk offered an inspiring glimpse into the discipline, teamwork, and courage required to serve as a pilot, while also highlighting the importance of resilience and self-belief.

Reflecting on her time at Shrewsbury, Emma said:

“Returning to Shrewsbury feels incredibly special. The friendships, experiences and values I gained here have shaped so much of who I am today. Shrewsbury gave me confidence, independence and a sense of purpose, all of which prepared me for the challenges and rewards of a career in the Army.”
